My research

My research is in progress ... please wait!

Master's Thesis

My master's thesis, which I am working on right now here at
UT, is about the Fundamental Plane for early-type galaxies. I am using data on the HydraI cluster (Abell 1060) taken by my supervisor Inger Jørgensen with the Danish 1.5 m telescope at ESO / la Silla, Chile.
When I find the time, I will give you a more elaborate update! :-)

3D visualization

In the spring of 1994, I did a 3D visualization of the distribution of galaxies in redshift space, together with Lars Lindberg Christensen and Michael J. D. Linden-Vørnle, under the supervision of Åke Nordlund.

A hypertext version of our report is available (still experimental).

You can get more details about the project on the Large Scale Structure WWW Page.

This image (JPEG, 118 k) shows the galaxies in the northern CfA slice, rendered as polygon spheres instead of points, using one of the Silicon Graphics computers at TAC.

Say What?!

The US magazine "People" reported in its April 1994 issue, that prince Edward of England is being "plagued by rumours that he is gay". That poor man! I hope, that when I get rich and famous, I wont be plagued by rumours that I am heterosexual!

On that note, I invite you to visit:
 * The
Queer Resources Directory
 * The list of Queer Infoservers
 * The LBGSA (Lesbian Bisexual Gay Student's Association) page at The University of Texas at Austin.
 * The Heterosexual Questionnaire.

Access Control

With NCSA httpd 1.3, you can do access control in 2 ways, either using the global ACF (acces control file) (default: /usr/local/etc/httpd/conf/access.conf) or by using per-directory ACFs (default: .htaccess).
Here is a demonstration of .htaccess files:
  1. The directoy /tmp1/ can only be accessed by hosts in domain astro.ku.dk.
    The .htaccess file looks as follows:
    <Limit GET>
    order deny,allow
    deny from all
    allow from .astro.ku.dk
    </Limit>

  2. The directoy /tmp2/ can only be accessed by hosts not in domain astro.ku.dk.
    The .htaccess file looks as follows:
    <Limit GET>
    order allow,deny
    allow from all
    deny from .astro.ku.dk
    </Limit>

Smart, right!
Now the individual user wants to try the same:
  1. /~milvang/tmp1/
  2. /~milvang/tmp2/
It works too!

I was inspired by Mosaic User Authentication Tutorial and by the pages on Access Configuration in the NCSA httpd 1.3 manual.

Again to show that our httpd is working, you could try my modified example 3 (the pizza one :-) -- I got this off of Mosaic for X version 2.0 Fill-Out Form Support. Note, that the original example 3 has not got the vegetarian pizza option! :-)
