Multi-layer insulation
Normally, our LN2 tanks are insulated by a single layer radiation shield.
Here are some images from an experiment with using 15 layers of aluminium
covered mylar foil.
The enclosed LN2 tank, filling tube pointing up.
The LN2 tank is now installed in the vacuum tank. The copper end of the
tank still needs to be covered. The charcoal getter and base for the cold
finger can be seen on the end plate.
The tank is now enclosed in the insulation. Later, a larger opening was
made for the charcoal getter and cold finger.
