Using a cold trap to examine contamination

After three days of pumping at room temperature, a LN2 cold trap was mounted between NOTCam and the pump. Baking was then started, with a cold table temperature of 90C reached after 6 hours.

The lower surface of the cold trap after opening it the next day, March 16 '99. The liquid appears to be mainly water, but there is also a sharp smell.

A closer look.

The entrance hole from NOTCam to the cold trap. While not easily seen in this picture, the liquid has a slight tint of yellow. This means that we are collecting more than just water.
