Applying for observing time at the Danish 1.54m telescope at La Silla

 *

Note: DFOSC downgrade
From the beginning of April 2004, DFOSC will be offered in a downgraded state, with the spectroscopic capability removed.
The internal grism- and filter wheels and the shutter are removed, and only t he FASU filter wheels and shutter can be used.
The rotator is locked to one position that will allow increased sky access without moving the telescope to the other side of the pier.

In order to apply for observing time for the Danish fraction of time available at the Danish 1.54 meter telescope, you must fill in and return this form. (In Netscape, you can obtain a copy by the menu "File" / "Save as" and click "Format: Text" ).

Deadline for applications for (part of) ESO period 73 (April 1, 2004 - October 1, 2004) is:

MONDAY NOVEMBER 3, 2003

The following periods are expected to be available for Danish observers, calculated from noon to noon:
01.04 - 10.04, 09.05 - 07.06, 07.07 - 05.08 2004

According to the agreements, applications from Chilean observers will be considered within a maximum of 10% of the available observing time.

DFOSC, which is permanently mounted on the telescope, will be available, but only in a standard setup. Applications must include full information on the DFOSC setup required for the project, and on orientation (pier) of telescope.

DFOSC is equipped with a new, thinned EEV 2048x4096 CCD. Here is a test report on the detector. In front of DFOSC is a filter/shutter unit for 90mm filters. To get further informantion on DFOSC, contact Jens Klougart, IJAF (tel. +45 353 25942).

The standard setup is:
Aperture wheel: 1", 1.5", 2.5", 10" slits, pinhole, MOS1, MOS2, Free
Filter wheel: Bessel U, B, V, R, Gunn r, i, z, Free
FASU: Strömgren filters
Grism wheel: Gr. 4, 14, 5, 8, focus pyramid, Hartm 1, Hartm 2, Free

Applications must specify clearly the name of the observer(s), including information on experience with the Danish 1.5m telescope and DFOSC. Observers with no previous experience will not be accepted, unless a detailed plan for sufficient training is presented.

Applications for long observing periods are preferred.

As DFOSC may not be offered in the future, colleagues needing DFOSC spectroscopic modes (including MOS) are encouraged to apply now.

An upgrade of the telescope and its instrumentation is presently under consideration. Successful applicants should therefore be prepared that their observing runs may be canceled if the allocated time is needed for technical purposes.
