Photographs by Admiral Peary

The photographs were taken by Admiral Peary during his recovery 1896 of the two large meteorites, Woman and Dog. The first shows Dog, in situ. This print was used in Peary's book "Northward over the Great Ice, where only the central section appears. Notice the ink-lines, probably drawn by Peary himself. An unnamed sailor is seated next to the meteorite. The second frame shows the hauling of Dog from the site of find, to the inlet, where Peary's ship, the "Kite" was anchored. The print is unpublished.
